Culture Building Through Pop Culture and Mass Media.

Since mass media is intended to reach a large audience to through broadcast media, this picture describes what mass media is.

Culture building through mass media can mean different things to different people. However, to me culture building through mass media means the proliferation of different types of culture .Culture building through mass media involves different types of cultures for example: fashion, T.V , music ,and pop. Social Media plays a big role in the types of different cultures because social media gets to show the world new things to  a much wider audience. For example, if there's a new fashion trend in Forever 21 sweaters and a girl buys one she will most likely post it in social media websites and from their it will be open  to the world to see. One of the sources "How Does the Media Effect our Culture" talks about the biggest tool in the media that generates revenue by the millions everyday, is advertising. I think the media affects our culture us in many different ways because the media plays a big role in our lives, because everything consists of media outlets.

Another source I found "Youth culture, the mass media, and democracy" is about how now in  days younger children and teenagers ranging from 4-20 are so into the media so much that their spending most of their time on the internet.'' I think this is so true because that's exactly how our society is today. " Today’s youth, whether through MTV, the Internet, the gaming world, the Western music industry, or Hollywood, consume myriad digitized texts and goods to embody the cool lifestyles of Western pop icons, which marketers, advertisers and corporations configure to net the excess of dollars that children and their caregivers have increasingly spent to amuse themselves through marketed forms of leisure for the past 20 years''.( Youth Culture, the mass media , and democracy). The last source ''Understanding Media and Culture: An Introduction to Mass Communication, Mass Media and Popular Culture" talks about  how Pop Culture and Media have a connected relationship because they both influence each other since mass media tends to focus on Pop culture. I think Pop culture and the media have influenced my culture because I'm currently in the time where our world consists of social media. Some multiple media outlets of Culture Building through Mass Media are
newspapers, radio, T.V, Instagram , Facebook, and Twitter.

voice of the voiceless

Quit Being The Voice of the Voiceless is an article about girls who don't have the opportunity to attend school and get an education. These girls have been through a lot  in their past years. As well as not attending school they also deal with poverty. These girls aren't brave enough to speak up and say  that they deserve an education. In some cases, having a voice can drown because sometimes we might be afraid to use it. Recognizing the power of letting people speak for themselves is an amazing opportunity because it opens the doors to young people that have the capability of speaking what they believe should be right. I've found two articles that relate to my main article about Young girls being banned from attending school and having the Voice of the Voiceless. The article "You Won’t Believe How Many Countries Still Won’t Allow Women The Right To Education'' talks about di
fferent parts of the world with the same problem. Some of the places that the article mentions is India, Cambodia, Pakistan , and Guatemala. The second article "65 Million Girls Unable To Attend School, More Likely To Suffer Abuse" was very interesting because as the topic being The Voice of The Voiceless it says that if young children don't go to school they wont know how to protect themselves later in their lives. I believe that if  young girls get an education and learn to speak up for  themselves they will become someone important in life as well as knowing what dangers life can bring.

Amanda's Story from The Block A Meeting Place

The  story that caught my attention was Amanda Morgan's . Amanda is a 22 year old, who  says that she's proud of  where she's from. I believe that being proud from where you come from is very Important because it plays a big role in who you are today. Amanda seems to put her family first before anything else, I put my family first before because  family is so important. Amanda says that a lot of celebrities have visited. For example some of them include ,Whoopi Goldberg , Michael Jackson, and Prince William .She describes that "growing up there is different than the way the media describes it." Most of her family  grew up in The Block ,and says that most of her family from her parents side would often stay in her house for the night while they went to look for a place to live at.
If you want more further information , feel free to check out the two links above,May Amanda inspire you to feel proud of your background!!! http://mywalkingshadow.blogspot.com/2012/10/are-you-proud-of-your-country.

Sad news

In class waiting for Mr. Mendoza but we got the sad news that he was in a car accident. Hopefully he's ok. They said it was Minor injuries.

Move In Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On June 15,2014 we moved in the dorms.  I like the program but its sort of  difficult I'm currently taking Journalism, Physical Geography, and Environmental Science. The bad thing is that we go to bed depending on  our homework if it's done, so I always end up sleeping late like 12 through 1 a.m. and wake up so early. Their are 116 students in the program, Aaron hopes to end the program with the total of 116 students. The program ends on July 18 ,2014, it seems like a long time but were in our third week, two more weeks to go! The bad thing is that the last two weeks we staying in the dorms during the weekends.
